Taro Aso was ranked top on the black list of "worst post-war prime ministers," in an article in the weekly news magazine dated on the 26th of Feb 2009. Ranked second was Sousuke Uno, while Yasuo Fukuda was ranked third, Yoshiro Mori was fourth and Shinzo Abe was fifth. Junichiro Koizumi and Kakuei Tanaka were ranked sixth and ninth, respectively. This ranking was selected by a group of intellectuals and 2,000 other people surveyed.
In my opinion, I can honestly say that the worst prime minister was Shinzo Abe. He abandoned his responsibilities and he suddenly retired before carrying out any meaningful policies. I read his book titled “For the sake of a Beautiful Japan” that was written just before he became the prime minister. Everyone reading this book got to know that his way of thinking was based only on the rich and selected people. Some of the reasons for this were that he did not know the hardships facing common people. He didn’t recognize that the disparity between the rich and the poor had widened.
His speeches were usually pointless so I couldn’t understand his intention as a politician to link himself to the Japanese future. His image was formed only through the reputation of his work to save abductees from North Korea. His personality was that of a gentleman, and his polite impression was highly evaluated compared with other politicians before his election to the president of the LDP.
His abilities as a prime minister were actually poor. I suppose it is obvious that he didn’t have enough experience like some ministry posts or representatives of diplomacy etc. and Abe’s cabinet was made up only of Abe’s friends, there were no people who gave creative opinions or who were Abe’s debate partners.
